This is What Stand’s Harassment and Dirty Tricks Look Like

Below is a summary list of PRA (Public Records Act) requests made to RVC since August of 2017. These orchestrated and coordinated requests represent an obvious abuse of well-intentioned transparency laws, which courts have repeatedly found special interest and often right wing groups guilty of abusing for the sole purpose of tying their targets up in paperwork, red-tape, and expense – to the point where they can’t conduct regular business.

You’ll notice that all requests, except one or two were made by Stand members or an attorney acting on their behalf. No similar action was taken against the district or any other school in the Ross Valley environs.

We’d like to know if Stand’s objectives are so righteous, why do they have to rely on lies, harassment, and dirty tricks such as this? Why not allow the charter to survive or fail based on whether or not it is meeting the needs of students and parents in the community?

To be against a law doesn’t give one the right to attack the folks who are following the law. We recommend trying to change the law, rather than the people trying to abide by it.

Anyone who has the stand magnet on their car or the sign in their yard are telling their children and the community they believe in bullying, harrassment and abuse to win at all costs.

Untrue.

I beg to differ. Why align yourself with people who are harassing a public school and their neighbors who are considering sending their kids there? Even if you don’t like charter schools, they are run by your tax dollars, which these people are wasting by sending dozens of unnecessary PRAs that need to be answered by paid employees of RVC.

Maybe untrue in terms of your personal motives. I’ve spoken with several people who used to display the magnet thinking it was about school pride. (Then removed them after a few days when they looked into it more and saw what Stand actually was.) A more accurate phrasing may be, that’s what a significant percentage of the area’s residents, regardless of where their own children go, “hear” them saying with the magnets. You may disagree, but it’s not up to you. When I see a car with that magnet, I hear them saying, “I’m either blissfully uninformed, or my heart… Read more »

It’s just mind spinning to think about the amount of destructive energy these folks have to derailing dedicated educators’ attention to kids. They think this is clever — all it does is take away time spent on children for nonsense and waste. The people whose hobby this is must never have actually created something – otherwise their glee at destroying the work others have invested would be muted and focused, instead, on the hard work of policy change, not just thinking activism is drowning good people in nonsense that takes all of 2″ to create. Not clever. Small minded, manipulative… Read more »

This reminds me of one of the other Stand classic subversions – attempting to influence the town council races in San Anselmo and Fairfax by acting like some kind of political action committee with an “endorsement slate” – trying to insinuate themselves into the town council elections but then losing their sh$t when sunshined for doing so.

Most candidates ran far from that–they didn’t want to be associated with Stand’s nonsense.

This doesn’t look to me much different than the correspondence page of RVSD BoardDocs. It also seems like a good idea to let the non-stand part of the community observe the organized, distasteful behavior some people will employ in order to get THEIR way. I don’t like these tactics at all.

Very interesting blog here. What petulant and embarrassing behavior Stand parents are reducing themselves to. All the info requested? All the conflict for what? The charter must be one hell of an amazing school that objectors would throw themselves in front of a train to prevent anyone from attending. Good grief. I’d be more concerned about the bad shape the RVSD is in. Can’t climb out of a pit it’s dug for itself. Got nothing to do with the new kid in town. If it does the district was already drowning.

RVC IS amazing, and Stand knows it, and that’s why they have their knickers in a twist trying to stop it.

Yes, Stand tried to scare people off from enrolling at the charter and did a pretty good job of it. But people who were looking for an alternative and had a thick skin went ahead and put their kids in, and are grateful they did. We sure are! Our kids are super happy at RVC and doing so much better than at their previous school. Several of my neighbors either have moved to RVC or are considering it for next year, and worried they won’t get in.

I agree… both sides have forgotten what being peaceful neighbors is about. I have friends from both sides…. love them but the way they behave to each other is disgraceful. This blog and Nextdoor is a shambles. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

We’re not sure what you mean by “both sides.” We (Outliers) are not affiliated with RVC. Our motivation is to shine a light on hypocrisy and show untruths when they occur. It would be helpful if you could point out what part of “shambles” you perceive us to be part of. A specific article, if you don’t mind. Thanks for you comment.

World of difference between a privately hosted blog or Facebook page and 1) monopolizing NextDoor – which was designed as a public neighborhood to build community; 2) engaging in full blown personal attacks on public newspaper sites; 3) littering neighborhoods with anti-school signs that misrepresent the truth and 4) protesting in front of kids and parents. Not equivalent. All people need to do if the opinions expressed here are distressing is not search out the blog.

No shortage of outcry from Stand activists about us sun-shining their abuse and manipulation. Their accusations that RVC is harassing them are totally unfounded. The information contained in the post about Stand’s PRA abuse was obtained the same way they obtained their information: through a PRA. We are not RVC.

If you aren’t RVC then how do you know there is outcry??????? Hmm, bets on this comment making it through moderation?

Are you serious? We live in this community, how could anyone possibly miss the decals, and yard signs and vile letters to the editor in the IJ. Or the posts on Next Door (here; here; here;). Should I go on or point you to the IJ.
Oh, and once more, for recalcitrant listeners, We Are Not Affiliated With the Charter. We do Like the Charter, though.

How much did you bet?

outcry here, brilliance. the dumb comments you and your shadowy friends who don’t like the sunlight are bombarding the editor with. you’re loosing your sh#t here. RVC has plenty to do taking care of kids and families. you think, what, like Bagley they’re spending their day crafting stupid blogs to project their own demons on to the world? no…they’re teaching and tending to young people…which is what they do all day every day.

Thanks to Heather Bennett, Robin Goldman, et al and Stand, everybody in the country knows about the outcry. Their outcry, anyway.

Imagine having that much time on your hands. Imagine making this such a priority in your life. Imagine the scheming conversations these folks have–what can we ask for next? how can we try to screw RVC now?

Pathetic.

There is nothing wrong with using PRA’s to gain information not readily accessible elsewhere. And a few PRA’s would have been understandable. What this is though, with repeated frequent requests done in relay fashion by an aggressive, antagonistic group over a long period of time, is harassment.. Legal yes, but harassment and an attempt to distract educators from doing their work. This is an example of very uncivil, mean-spirited behavior that reflects where we are nationally, but shouldn’t reflect where we are in our small community. RVC is not a thing. It’s a community of people – children and their… Read more »

As a person who has strong feelings that charter schools should be few and far between, I couldn’t agree with you more, Julie. The behavior exhibited by Stand is despicable. But perhaps more troubling is the lack of leadership from the school trustees.
